Cycling Training Programs

Thank you for taking up the challenge of competing in a bike race for NF Canada and the NF Dream team.

There are a number of training programs you can chose from based on your experience and your goals for finishing. I encourage you to look at the program descriptions carefully and try to find a balance between your goals and your experience.

Keep in mind that having a time goal can help with your motivation but setting your sights too high can lead to disappointment and even injury. Be realistic and don’t be afraid to ask for help, that’s what I’m here for!

Lets have a look at the programs:
Please remember that cycling, although low impact, is a high intensity activity. Please consult a physician if starting an exercise program for the first time, if you are increasing your activity level, or experience pain or discomfort while following the programs.

Beginner Program:

This program is designed for the beginner cyclist. It will ease you into the longer rides that you will need to do later in the program. The focus of this program is helping you finish you ride comfortably, in a time you can be happy with!

Keep in mind that the time commitment of a cycling program can be longer than running programs you may have done in the past.

Intermediate program:

This program is designed for the recreational cyclist. It has a slightly harder progression than the beginner program and incorporates a variety of training techniques to develop your cycling technique. This program is aimed at people that want to start to be more competitive in their categories, but are still building experience.

Keep in mind that the time commitment of a cycling program can be longer than running programs you may have done in the past.
